Unveil the fiery mysteries: Volcanic Wonders of Reykjanes Geopark

The Reykjanes Geopark is home to a striking, dramatic landscape comprising lava fields, volcanic craters, geothermal waters, and lava caves. This exciting day tour includes visits to the latest eruption site, the Seltún geothermal area, the bubbling mud pools of Gunnuhver, and the Bridge Between Two Continents!

Explore the rugged Reykjanes Geopark, a geologically significant region on a peninsula divided between two continents. The Reykjanes peninsula sits on the drift zone between the North American and the Eurasian continental plates, making it a true volcanic wonder. An expert guide will drive along the Reykjanes peninsula, with views of the North Atlantic Ocean, sweeping lava fields, and huge volcanic craters.

Your adventure starts with visiting Iceland's youngest volcano, the Fagradalsfjall volcano, and the surrounding lava fields. The volcano erupted in 2021 and 2022, and the guided hike up to the viewpoint takes about 40 minutes. You will be able to explore the devastating yet beautiful aftermath of this recent volcanic eruption, a glimpse of the raw power of Icelandic nature.

After the volcano hike, the tour stops by the Bridge Between Continents, where you can walk between the continental plates that divide the peninsula. This landmark represents the unique placement directly on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

Before returning to Reykjavík, you will visit the largest mud pool in Iceland, Gunnuhver, where you can feel the ground shake from the enormous pressure released from the boiling water and steam.
The tour also stops by one of the most iconic features of the Icelandic volcanic landscape, the boiling mud pools of Seltún, and the steaming colourful surrounding landscape. This stop is only available when the road to Seltún is open (it’s usually closed during the winter).
