Pets are not allowed on coach tours.

Nature is the main attraction on many of our excursions, meaning that some day tours require short to medium-long walks. If walking is required on the tour, it will be mentioned in the tour description.

We recommend that you find a tour suitable to your needs. Please read the tour descriptions for further information on each tour.

We understand that your travel plans might change. You can easily change the dates for your booked tours with only one phone call: (+354) 580 5400 by stopping by one of our sales offices, or by sending us an email to main@re.is. You will need to quote your confirmation number to change your dates and give us all the necessary information.

Please remember: Your date change must be requested at least a day before the scheduled departure.

You can book for a group of people using our online booking system. Each booking must contain at least one adult.

Reykjavik Excursions Kynnisferðir takes pride in tailor-making and organising tours for private groups, from short trips within Reykjavik to full-circle programs. Our fleet of modern coaches consists of 80 vehicles, ranging from 6 to 70 seats and 4x4 coaches suitable for crossing un-bridged glacier rivers, reaching almost any destination in the highlands. Icelandia operates a sales office at the BSÍ Bus Terminal in Reykjavík and a sales office at Keflavik Airport.

Reykjavik Excursions reserves the rights to alter routes, itineraries or timetables without prior notice, should the necessity arise. No liability is accepted for losses, theft or expenses due to delay of any agent, hotel, coach, operator, airline, guide, restaurant or any other persons or companies, however caused. Reykjavik Excursions is not responsible for losses in the event of Force Major, such as natural catastrophes, strikes, weather, war or other causes outside of the control of Reykjavik Excursions. All such losses and expenses are the personal liability of the traveller. We advice all clients to have a travel insurance, as they travel at their own responsibility on tours and transfers.

All cancellations should be in writing and notified at least 24 hours* prior to departure. Cancellations received less than 24 hours prior to departure will be charged full price. (*Except for Blue Lagoon bookings where cancellations must be received with at least 48 hours notice.)

*Cancellation for 3rd party tours depends on the cancellation policy from the tour operator

To request a refund please fill out a refund request.

If a tour is displayed online you can book it and hence guarantee your seat on the tour.

It is recommended that you print out your confirmation and bring it with you on paper for your tour. That helps us prevent delays and service you sooner, once you arrive for your tour.

If you cannot print your confirmation, please show up early for your tour so our staff has time to confirm your booking. You will be asked to present your confirmation number and identification. Be advised, that this might require some waiting on your behalf.

All cancellations should be in writing and be notified 24 hours* before departure.

If you bought your ticket at one of the Reykjavik Excursions sale offices, and you notify 24 hours before your pick up, your ticket will be refunded.

*Except for Blue Lagoon bookings where cancellations must be received with at least 48 hours notice.

You can expect up to 24 hours to pass before receiving a confirmation via email.

Try looking in your email's 'Trash' or 'Junk' folder. Sometimes confirmation emails can be misplaced by your email server and not reach your inbox.

If more than 24 hours have passed, or if you booked a tour with short notice, email us at main@re.is, and we will get back to you. Please provide a phone number where you can be reached.

Our aim is to make it as convenient as possible to book a tour with Reykjavik Excursions. If you experience difficulties, they might only be temporary. Try booking again after a few minutes.

If the problem persists, you can call (+354) 580 5400 and talk to a sales executive. Please disclose tour name, tour date, no. of passengers, your name and contact information so we can complete your booking.

We would appreciate to hear about your booking problem, so that we can improve our booking system.

If you booked directly through Reykjavik Excursions, either online or at a sales office, you can always change your booking. Just make sure you do it in time, so pick-up information can be changed. To change your booking, contact us via e-mail, main@re.is or by phoning (+354) 580 5400. Please have all the necessary information at hand, including your confirmation letter.

If you booked through another travel agency, you have to make the changes through that agency and follow the terms set by them.

The tours vary in length but we do stop at least every 1,5 - 2 hours for a stretch and a bathroom stop.

During all full day excursions there is a lunch stop at a local restaurant. Further information and details of each tour are listed on our website and in our brochure.

Unless specifically listed, meals and refreshments are not included. During all full day excursions there is a lunch stop at a local restaurant. For the tours, you can either bring your own lunch or buy it on the way. It is not allowed to have lunch on board the coach.

Yes, all passengers should use seat belts and we at Reykjavik Excursions offer child's car seats for children 9–18 kg approx. (1–3 or 4 years old) Please note that Reykjavik Excursions cannot provide child car seats on the Highland Bus.

It is the driver's responsibility to ensure that all passengers wear seat belts according to Icelandic law and that children use an appropriate child's car seat for their age.

• Children 0-3 years of age must use an appropriate child's car seats.
• Children 3 or 4 years and older (over 18 kg) can use the normal seat belts on our buses.

Please contact our Customer Service with at least 24 hour notice if you are planning to travel with us and a child's car seat is needed so we can make sure that there is one available. Kindly note that operators are not required to provide children's car seats as it is not practical for them to carry a range of different child´s car seats on their vehicles. That is why we ask our customers to book a child's car seat in advance when needed.

There are 2-point seat belts on all Reykjavik Excursions buses.

• Crampons (advisable during winter) – can be bought on the spot. Some of our beautiful places in nature are protected and cannot be salted to protect nature. That is why it can get quite icy at Gullfoss and Geysir, so we recommend wearing crampons there.

All admission to sites, museums or exhibitions visited are included, unless otherwise stated in tour description.

Reykjavik Excursions offers guidance in most of the tours. Guidance is in English. Some tours are additionally guided in German, French or Scandinavian (maximum 2 languages per tour).

Our tour guides are professionals with degrees in various languages and/or subjects relating to Icelandic tourism. Your guide tells you about the area you are visiting and leads the way throughout the tour. He will also be able to answer your questions, if you have any. Our aim is to offer quality tours that feature the different aspects of Iceland's nature, history, culture and modern living.

Passengers with reduced mobility and using a manual wheelchair are more than welcome to join our day tours. Please advise your reduced mobility when booking a day tour in order for us to be able to make appropriate measures. Our staff assists as much as possible in moving to/from or within the bus.

Guidance is in English.

Some tours are additionally guided in German, French or Scandinavian (maximum 2 languages per tour). Further information and details are listed with each tour.

Reykjavik Excursions offers pick up at designated bus stops, and selected hotels, guesthouses and hostels at an extra cost. Pick up starts 30 minutes before departure and passengers are requested to be ready in time at your pick up location. Passengers are responsible for being ready and visible for their pick up. If passengers miss their Reykjavik Excursions pick up they need to arrive at BSÍ Bus Terminal in time for their tour´s departure at their own cost.

Attention passengers staying in hotels and guesthouses in the restricted area in the city centre need to go to the nearest bus pick up spot. For more information on pick up locations refer to our pick up location page. The pick up is operated by smaller and bigger coaches throughout the city, dictated by accessibility.

Drop off starts after indicated arrival time. Please note that drop off locations may not be directly in front of your hotel or guesthouse dictated by actual conditions (e.g. narrow streets, coach size, roadworks, etc.). Those staying in hotels and guesthouses in the restricted area in the city centre will be dropped off at the same place they were picked up from.

Pick up and drop off for day tours operated by subcontractors may vary, please refer to each tour.

Reykjavik Excursions bus fleet is one of the best in Iceland. Our fleet of modern coaches consists of 80 vehicles, varying from 6 to 70 seats and 4x4 coaches suitable for crossing un-bridged glacier rivers, hence reaching almost any destination in the highlands. Constant supervision, maintenance and upkeep ensure the quality of the coaches and professional drivers enhance the safety of all passengers.

Packaged and unpackaged bicycles can be transported if space is available. The cost per bicycle is 2.500 ISK. For maximum efficiency in the luggage compartment, we prefer that bicycles are packaged in boxes. Unpackaged bicycles must have the pedals removed and the chain covered. Additional luggage will be loaded as space allows and is subject to freight charges. The cost for each item, such as golf bags, skis etc. is 1.000 ISK per item.

If you are travelling with more luggage than is estimated per person we recommend you send us an e-mail (main@re.is) or call our main BSI Bus Terminal office, (+354) 580 5400 in order for us to make appropriate arrangements before your arrival.

Flybus passengers are allowed to store two bags per person, weighing a maximum of 23 kg (50 lbs) each in the luggage compartment of the bus. Day tour passengers usually don't bring that much luggage, except for tours that have drop off at Keflavik International Airport, e.g. some Blue Lagoon tours. Passengers can also take aboard one small carry-on item.

Reykjavik Excursions take no liability for luggage, fragile valuables or perishable articles. All baggage must be claimed promptly upon arrival.

Smoking is prohibited on board Reykjavik Excursions coaches.

Icelandia reserves the right to alter routes, itineraries or timetables without prior notice should the necessity arise.

No liability is accepted for losses or expenses due to delays or changes of arrival or departure of flights or other services, injury, sickness, accident, strikes, damage, negligence, weather, war or other causes outside the control of Icelandia. All such losses and expenses are the personal liability of the traveller.

You do not need to bring your passport for the day tours. If you are going snowmobiling, you do need to bring a driver's license.

Tours and services are subject to currency fluctuation and conditions of cooperative contractors that may provide transportation and other services.

The Flybus is the most reliable airport transfer between Keflavík airport and Reykjavík. The Flybus schedule runs throughout the day, synchronised with the airport departure and arrival times—so you can be sure there’ll be a bus when you need it.

The journey between the airport and the city centre takes 45 minutes, terminating at the BSÍ bus station. Book your ticket online and travel cashfree.

The easiest option is to buy Flybus tickets in advance online. You can book in a matter of moments and know that you’re all prepared to travel before you arrive in Iceland.

Alternatively, you’ll find ticket machines in Keflavík airport, making it really easy to catch a bus whatever time you land.

The main bus stop in Reykjavík is the BSÍ Bus Terminal, in the centre of town. This is where the basic service terminates.

On the way, there are two other Flybus stop locations: Hafnarfjörður and Garðabær. If you wish to be dropped off at those stops, please inform the driver before your journey.

After the BSÍ bus station, the Flybus+ service can take you directly to selected hotels and guesthouses. Reykjavík’s youth hostel, the Laugardalur campsite, and Reykjavík’s domestic airport are all served by Flybus+.

The Flybus is the most reliable service connecting Keflavík airport with Reykjavík. It’s run by Reykjavík Excursions, one of the oldest and most respected tour operators in Iceland.

We always recommend booking the Flybus in advance, as it helps you make sure you’re all prepared for your trip.

However, you don’t need to book in advance. There are ticket machines available at Keflavík airport and a seat is always available to airport passengers.

You should expect to pay at least 16,000 ISK for a private taxi between Reykjavík and Keflavík. However, prices can increase in evenings and on weekends.

The Flybus takes 45 minutes from the BSÍ bus terminal to Keflavík airport and the same in the opposite direction—depending on road conditions. The journey is 50 kilometres (31 miles).

If you’ve booked Flybus+, this typically adds another 20 minutes to your journey.

The Flybus Iceland is not a sleeper service, as it only takes 45 minutes. However, it does run from as early as 03:30 in the morning, and you’re more than welcome to sleep on your way to and from the airport!

The Flybus in Reykjavík is the most convenient way to travel between Keflavík airport and Reykjavík. Catch the bus from just outside the Keflavík airport terminal and it will take you into town.

Similarly, if you’re travelling to Keflavík airport, you can catch the bus from Reykjavík’s BSÍ bus terminal. There are 15 scheduled departures each day.

The best way to get a ticket is to book online. You’ll have a flexible ticket, meaning that you can travel on any Flybus—and travel cashfree.

An adult ticket for the Flybus costs 3,899 ISK and children travel for 1,950 ISK. Prices are subject to change, so check out the Flybus booking page for up to date information.

If you’re travelling on the Flybus, you can bring two bags per person, weighing no more than 23 kg (50 lbs) each. They’ll be stored in the luggage compartment of the bus.

It’s really easy to take the Flybus in Iceland. The bus stop is located directly outside the Keflavík airport terminal and every bus is scheduled to service every arriving flight.

Buses are scheduled to depart 40 minutes after a flight’s arrival, but if your flight is late, the bus will wait. With a ticket booked online, you can get any Flybus that’s available.

When you’re going to the airport from downtown Reykjavík, head to the BSÍ bus terminal. Or book Flybus+ to benefit from pickup from your accommodation.

A single adult journey on the Flybus costs 3,899 ISK. Children under 16 travel for 1,950 ISK, while kids under 6 travel free.

If you want to benefit from hotel pickup or drop-off, you will pay a little more for your ticket. The same applies if you want to combine the Flybus and a Northern Lights tour, a Golden Circle tour, or another combination tour.

For travellers that end their hiking trail in Þórsmörk or Landmannalaugar, we offer baggage transfer for a small fee. You can choose between three different areas within Þórsmörk: Húsadalur (Volcano Huts), Langidalur or Básar. You don´t need to make a reservation for baggage delivery, you just pay at BSÍ bus terminal or Hvolsvöllur or Hella before departure

The baggage transfer is limited to a backpack, box, or a cabin size bag plus a sleeping bag (Maximum luggage size excluding the sleeping bag: 55x40x20 cm, maximum weight: 10 kg). Please make sure that items are in a waterproof bag and are properly labeled.

Please note that depending on the delivery location the baggage might be placed in an unattended room or a trailer until picked up. Reykjavik Excursions assumes no responsibility for baggage after it is dropped off, but in the Icelandic highlands, this shouldn’t really be a problem.

You do not need to book and pay for baggage transfer for the bags that you bring with on the hike, only if you are sending bags to a different location than you are travelling to.

Highland Bus (previously "Iceland On Your Own") is the name for Reykjavik Excursions' scheduled bus operation. During the summer, Highland Bus is the perfect way for the independent traveller to experience Iceland's most popular hiking routes.

Children 3 or 4 years and older (over 18 kg) can use the normal seat belts on our buses. Children 0-3 years of age must use an appropriate child's car seats. Please note that Reykjavík Excursions does not provide child seats on the Highland Bus.

People choose to visit Iceland in the summer for several reasons. The temperatures are milder, making outdoor activities more comfortable. The days are long due to the phenomenon of the Midnight Sun, providing ample daylight for sightseeing. Summer also brings vibrant colors to the landscapes, including the blossoming of the beautiful purple lupin fields. Also, all roads, including those leading to the highlands, are open and easily navigable during the summer.

Both July and August offer excellent conditions for visiting Iceland, featuring mild temperatures, long days, and open roads. However, July typically experiences slightly better weather, while August begins to usher in a hint of autumn with fewer crowds. If wildlife is a priority, puffins are usually visible until mid-August, making either month a good choice. It ultimately depends on your personal preferences and priorities for your visit.

The busiest month in Iceland tends to be July. During this peak travel season, visitors flock to the country to take advantage of the warm weather, long days of the Midnight Sun, open roads, and vibrant landscapes. This is also the time when many cultural festivals and events take place, further attracting tourists. However, August is also quite busy for similar reasons.

Determining the "best" season to visit Iceland largely depends on your personal preferences, desired activities, and comfort with varying weather conditions. Summer offers mild temperatures, lush landscapes, and the unique experience of the Midnight Sun, while winter provides opportunities to see the Northern Lights, dramatic frozen landscapes, and an otherworldly atmosphere. Spring and autumn provide a balanced blend of both with more moderate weather and fewer tourists.

The low season in Iceland falls in the late autumn to early spring months, roughly from November to March, with an exception of the Christmas season. During this time, visitor numbers decrease significantly due to the colder temperatures. The slowest months are usually March and April.

However, this period also offers the unique chance to experience the Northern Lights and Iceland's captivating winter landscapes, making it a magical time to visit for those who don't mind the chill.

The decision to visit Iceland in the summer or winter depends largely on your interests. Summer offers longer days, milder weather, and a great chance to explore the island's flora and fauna. It's a great time for hiking, wildlife watching, and enjoying the Midnight Sun.

Winter, on the other hand, is the time to experience the ethereal Northern Lights, ice caves, and serene snowy landscapes. It's a season of magical dark skies, illuminated by both city lights and the natural light display of the Aurora Borealis. Both seasons have their unique charms and it is up to the traveler to decide which experiences are most enticing.

The dark season in Iceland typically spans from late November to late January. This is when the country experiences its shortest days, with the Winter Solstice in late December seeing only about four hours of daylight. However, this period also provides the best opportunity to witness the stunning natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights, as the extensive hours of darkness offer ample viewing time.

The driest season in Iceland is generally early summer, specifically May and June. While Iceland's weather can be unpredictable and varies from year to year, these months typically have the least amount of rainfall. However, weather conditions can change rapidly, so it's always a good idea to check the forecast regularly and come prepared for different scenarios.

Some meeting points don't have traditional addresses as they are parking lots or or mountain base camps in remote areas or, but you can always find these locations on Google Maps and see directions on the map above.

Before we head to the glacier for the tour, we need to get everyone fitted with the equipment (protective overalls, helmets and goggles for snowmobile tours, crampons and harnesses for glacier hikes, dry suit for kayak touts, etc.). Some equipment needs to be adjusted to each person's, so people must arrive 30 minutes before so everyone is ready at the departure time.

We always recommend booking as soon as you are ready, especially if you have a strict travel schedule or a large group. Changing or cancelling your tour is easy and free of charge until 24 hours before departure by emailing us (info@mountainguides.is). Tours can also be purchased on the day of as long as spaces are available.
